Dates: 6 Nov 2026 – 24 Jan 2027 · daily 9am to 6pm
Sounding Lines is a free sound installation in the Oculus at ArtScience Museum, running from 6 November 2026 to 24 January 2027. Belgian artist Stijn Demeulenaere mixes recordings of North Sea oyster beds, offshore wind farms and sea shanties sung by a women’s choir from Ostend. It’s a quiet 15-minute stop between bigger Marina Bay plans.

Good to know
Daily 9am to 6pm; it’s the world premiere of the work
Why go?
It’s free and needs no ticket, unlike the museum’s paid galleries.
It’s a world premiere that links the North Sea to Singapore’s own seabed of cables and reclaimed land.
It’s calm and indoors, so it’s a good rain or heat break on a Marina Bay walk.
What to do
01 · Listen to the seabed
The piece is a spatial sound composition that you walk through. It combines recordings from some of the last wild oyster beds in the North Sea, sounds from offshore wind farms and processed sea shanties from Ostend in Belgium. It asks how fishing, oil and gas, wind farms and submarine cables have changed the sea floor.
02 · Make a free afternoon of it
Our tip: pair it with the free ArtScience Interlude video artworks in the Level 1 lobby, which play on the hour, then walk the Helix Bridge. If you want a paid exhibition, More than Human opens on 28 November 2026 in the Basement 2 galleries next door.
03 · Sound bath on Fridays
The museum also runs Gong and Sound Bath classes beneath the Rain Oculus on Fridays at 6.45pm. These are separate classes, so check the museum’s page for booking and prices.
