Torimitsu at Tanuki Raw: a hard-to-book Tokyo yakitori counter grills on an Orchard Central balcony for three months from 28 October

Torimitsu is a 13-seat yakitori counter in Tokyo’s Kagurazaka that’s famously hard to get into. For three months from 28 October, chef Takuhei Yamada is grilling on Tanuki Raw’s open-air balcony at Orchard Central instead. It’s one set at S$59.80, just 15 people at a time, and the only sure way in is to book.

Good to know

Starts Wednesday 28 October 2026 and runs about three months. Every diner must order the set. It’s outdoors on a sheltered balcony

Why go?

You get a Tokyo counter’s cooking without the flight or the booking battle in Kagurazaka, at a price that’s fair for Orchard Road.

The set is a full meal: eight skewers off the charcoal, then chicken ramen. The skewers change daily, so it’s the chef’s choice each night.

It’s grilled in full view on a 150 kg charcoal grill, and every seat can see the fire.

What to do

01 · Order the eight-skewer set

Every guest has to order chef Yamada’s eight-skewer omakase with chicken ramen (S$59.80). On top of that you can add extra skewers à la carte, and order from Tanuki Raw’s regular menu.

02 · Meet the chef

Takuhei Yamada has cooked Japanese food for 26 years. He trained in washoku in Akasaka from 2007, then farmed and ran an inn on Okinoerabu Island in Kagoshima before opening Torimitsu in Kagurazaka in 2022.

03 · Dress for the balcony

You’ll be eating al fresco on the fourth-floor balcony. It’s sheltered from rain and there are plenty of fans, but it’s still a warm Singapore evening, so dress light.

Before you go

  • The booking calendar fills fast for a 15-seat run, so book a weekday early in the run if dates are tight (suggestion).
  • Torimitsu hasn’t published an exact end date, only ‘three months’, so check before planning a late-January visit.
  • Make a night of it at Orchard Central with our Sandbox VR guide.
