Chinatown Heritage Centre is housed in three restored shophouses across three levels on Pagoda Street. It says it’s the only place in Singapore that has recreated the original interiors of 1950s shophouse tenants, telling the stories of the early immigrants who shaped Chinatown. Why go?
The recreated rooms make Chinatown’s history personal in a way a street walk can’t.
It’s indoors and central, so it works on a rainy day.
What to do
01 · Walk through the shophouse homes
Immersive exhibits and recreated 1950s shophouse interiors tell the stories, traditions and everyday lives of the people who built Chinatown, according to the centre.
02 · Add a tour or guide
Hard-copy gallery guides are sold in English and Mandarin. The 1.5-hour Character-Led and Insider’s Look tours are private bookings for up to 15 people.
Then walk the streets with our Chinatown shophouses walk.
